Went to Slurp Noodle Bar for brunch this weekend and it wasn’t too shabby! This place in the Castro was originally Fork Cafe but the owners randomly changed it to an Asian restaurant with a focus on noodles. I went with a friend and we split the pork belly buns, shrimp and chicken dumplings, and we each got the ramen.

The pork belly buns were alright but the pork belly was a little too crispy and not soft enough for my tastes. The bun itself was really good but the sauce tasted almost fishy so I think they used oyster sauce or something in the sauce in addition to Shiaoxing wine. The dumplings were really good and came covered in spicy Szechuan peppers. The ramen broth and noodles were pretty good, but I felt like majority of my noodle soup was just bamboo shoots! I also wish the pork belly was more Asian style aka melt in your mouth gelatinous style :( The ramen also came with a poached egg as opposed to a soft boiled Japanese style egg, but the egg itself was still good. I guess you could say this was a healthier version of ramen than other places have!

Overall, I would give Slurp a 3.5 out of 5 stars because the food was not bad but the service was pretty good! I definitely want to go back to try some of their other stuff though.

"She’d set up as an English tearoom, which had been her dream since she was a little girl and had read a series of books about three children who lived in an English manor house and had adventures with talking animals. Trifle, treacle, toad-in-the-hole—Sarah never forgot the foods they had at tea, or the fact that they had tea at all, and that i wasn’t something to drink but an entire meal."
